Who We Are
Peter Butt - Director
Peter Butt trained in the Assemblies of God Bible College. He founded and established the School of Ministries leadership training programme out of New Community Church, Southampton. He travels widely nationally and internationally training leaders as well as overseeing churches in the UK. He is married to Irene and has four married children, seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Graham Bower - Africa and Administration
After many years in project management, Graham was called into church leadership in 1991, and began training leaders in Africa, Asia and Europe. This led to a growing involvement with SOM, and his main work now is overseeing our ministry into Africa and our general administration, as well as travelling to teach and train leaders in various SOM centres. He is married to Diane, with two sons and one grandson.
Basil D'Souza - Asia
Basil D'Souza is the senior pastor of Covenant Blessings Church Mumbai, a contemporary and growing church that ministers to people from diverse linguistic and socioeconomic backgrounds. He began his career in sales and marketing and training but in 1993 he felt the call of God to serve full time in Covenant Blessings Church. With over 30 years of experience in training, he is the founder of International Leadership Connections (ILC) and travels frequently in India and also to Nepal, Philippines and other countries in Asia and beyond. He lives in Thane, Mumbai, with his wife Catherine, and their son Jeremy. He also has a daughter Elizabeth, and a grandson Zac Jordan.
Eric Skates - Training & Development
Eric Skates was involved with the Alpha course and ran groups for new Christians for many years before taking his first School of Ministry trip to Uganda in 2001. This led him to write two SOM modules: Growing in Christ I and II for leaders working with those new to faith. Eric originally trained as a teacher but now works in local government, which includes delivering training to school governors. As T&D lead his main areas of work are: the training and recruitment of new teachers, the ongoing development of existing teachers and programme development.
Kay Gill - Prayer
Kay has been teaching and training in SOM since 2001, mostly in African nations and especially Uganda. More recently she has taken up the challenge of SOM prayer co-ordinator. She is passionate about the word of God going out to the nations of the world. She has also been involved in church leadership since 1997, and along with her husband runs The Penguin Cafe in Lee on Solent.
Philip Raw – Chair of Oversight Team
Philip comes from a long line of missionary and ministry forefathers and has always been involved in overseas Christian development. He is now a consultant for a firm of Chartered Surveyors & Building Engineers and is a non Executive Director of two UK housing associations. He is part of a church leadership team. He is married to Christine and has two grown up married daughters.
Irene Butt is married to Peter and has been part of the vision of School of Ministries since its inception. As well as teaching on the programme she is involved in a prayer ministry which is seeing people experience breakthroughs in physical, spiritual and emotional areas. She is the mother of 4 children, grandmother to 7 grandchildren and has one great grandchild.
Andrew has been serving in the church since 1995, and for nearly 20 years as a senior pastor of a local church. He has also taught on School of Ministries for much of this time, primarily in Uganda and Rwanda. His main passion is to see the church being the fullness of all she can be. He is also a local businessman with a desire to see the church take her place in the community through business as well as usual church activities. Andrew is married to Kay and has four grown up children and 6 grandchildren.
Jo has been involved in missions in several countries and lived in Uganda for a period, where she organised and administered the School of Ministries work there. She has also taught on several schools and been involved in ministry in the USA. She is a senior project manager and is part of New Community Church, Southampton.
Sue Singh is part of the leadership team at New Community Church with the responsibility of leading the church in Eastleigh. She is passionate about the prophetic and loves to see the presence of God touch all aspects of life. Sue is married to Bryn, and has two children.
Katrina Mack – Admin Support
Katrina has been supporting Peter and Graham at the School of Ministries office in Southampton since February 2016. She is part of New Community Central, where she leads one of the Prayer Groups. She has become one of the SOM teachers, with a passion to speak about Prayer and Intercession, and has ministered in the Congo and Uganda. She is married to Stephen, and they have three children and two granddaughters.
Peter Butt, Phil Orchard and Jean Brand have compiled the majority of the modules supplemented by: Allan Cox, Peter Stott, Tony Morton, Tony Rozee and Lynn Swart and others within the New Community Network.
