Peter Butt and Eric Skates travelled to Malindi, Kenya to teach in a school hosted by Meleckson Delano, leader of a network of churches in the
coastal area of the country. The training attracted 40 enthusiastic students from several denominations in the coastal district of Lamu and Tana River. some having travelled up to four hours to attend the three days of intensive training on leadership and discipleship. The students were involved in a range of projects. Lawrence, an assistant administrator works on Lamu Island where the popluaion is 99% Muslim. The Christian church serves the community by running a school and day centre for 'children in crisis' and runs a sports project targetting boys involved in drugs. Lawrence uses the training to develop the team and discipleship course to work with new converts from the Muslim community. Rosina, a mother of five children, works with women's groups on health care and poverty eradication by introducing effective methods of local farming. Through the work women are coming to faith and Rosina uses the training to facilitate her work. It was very encouraging hearing testimony and the many ways the training is being used. Esther Delano has a heart and passion to work with young people; Philip, a Masai, was planning to plant churches in the Masai community. Eight of the students have now completed 30 modules of School of Ministry training and will be receving a diploma.
